10 Ways to Help Your Children Become Lifelong Readers:
Read aloud with your children or have them read aloud to you.
Designate a reading time and/or a reading place in your home.
Respect their reading choices (mysteries, science fiction, realistic fiction, non-fiction, fiction series, poetry, magazines, newspapers, etc.) They are likely to read more if it is a topic or format that interests them.
Create a family library of books that interest all of you.
Tell stories and have discussions.
Be a reading role model.
Encourage writing along with reading (reading journals, etc.).
Encourage older children to read to younger siblings.
Go to the library together.
Ask questions about what they are reading.
