For as long as tales have been told, storytellers have checked for comprehension, mastery of detail and a grasp of the moral embodied in the story. This traditional practice is enlivened in our libraries by the use of Microsoft’s PowerPoint presentation software. Students are stimulated visually by the lively and colorful slides we design to review all the literary elements which are included in our curriculum. Challenging vocabulary is better retained when viewed as well as heard. Maps, photos of foreign lands and clips of sounds or music enrich and extend the literary experience. Fatigue after being a good listener is dramatically lessened when our learners are refocused on these vital exercises.
